Anchor Chart: Parts of Speech
In 1976, James Britton said, “Reading and writing float on a sea of talk.” This remains true today, as research emphasizes that oral language is fundamental to students’ reading and writing success. Exposure to language shapes comprehension, which is a key skill for processing information. To foster comprehension, students need support in understanding language components, such as parts of speech. To address this, I created an anchor chart highlighting parts of speech—nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs. This chart was used as a reference during reading and writing tasks, directly helping students identify and use parts of speech and thereby improving both their comprehension and communication.
